Description

Welcome to HMH Emerge

This year's HMH Emerge is an exclusive pitch competition for North American healthcare startups, providing an unparalleled opportunity to gain piloting, partnering, mentorship, and potential investment. The virtual program will allow you to embark upon an exciting journey of growth and opportunity, designed to propel your healthcare innovation to the global stage.

HMH Emerge is for you If your North America-based healthcare startup is working on solutions that:

  • Improve early identification, monitoring, and prevention of postpartum complications during the first 3–6 months after childbirth, including high blood pressure, postpartum hemorrhage, and early signs of postpartum depression

  • Support success under the CMS TEAM model by improving care coordination, cost management, quality outcomes, and equity for coronary artery bypass graft procedures, joint replacement procedures, and congestive heart failure

For more information, visit our website here.

Program Overview

Open to healthcare startups based in North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico) that meet the following criteria:

  • Focus areas: Scalable solutions that address one or more of the following:

    • Improve early identification, monitoring, and prevention of postpartum complications during the first 3–6 months after childbirth, including high blood pressure, postpartum hemorrhage, and early signs of postpartum depression

    • Support success under CMS TEAM model by improving care coordination, cost management, quality outcomes, and equity for coronary artery bypass graft procedures, joint replacement procedures, and congestive heart failure

  • Demonstrable: Innovations beyond the idea stage and capable of being demonstrated through:

    • A working prototype

    • A pilot

    • A commercialized product

  • Stage: Startups may be:

    • Pre-revenue

    • Post-revenue

  • Intellectual Property Protection: Preferred but not required:

    • Issued patents

    • Patents pending

    • Filed patent applications

    • Other forms of legal protection

  • Team: An established team with the ability to support development, execution, and scaling

  • Initial Pitch: High-level application submission including a short video pitch

  • Selective Process: Top 5 startups selected for a structured pitch development period

  • Expert Engagement: Direct input from HMH clinicians, operators, and innovation leaders

  • Final Pitch: Top startups present to HMH leadership and stakeholders

All startups accepted into the program will receive mentorship by our HMH team members to learn about the U.S. healthcare market, how to partner with an organization like HMH, how to envision a pilot for the U.S. healthcare market, and how to refine their pitch for an organization like HMH.

The finalists may also receive additional mentorship, partnership, piloting, and/or investment after they give their final pitch. There is no single prize amount, and there is no upfront equity transfer. All prizes and associated equity transfers (whether based on financial or in-kind investments), if any, will be determined with HMH and the chosen startups on a case-by-case basis.

We realize this may be different from most pitch competitions. The intention is to keep this opportunity open to healthcare startups across development, funding, and maturity spectra. Startups at different stages will have unique needs. We want to be sure to identify the best specific support for each startup with whom HMH ultimately determines to accept.
